Welcome to Mrs. Butler's

3rd Grade Realm

Dear Families,

First of all, I'd like to express my sincere thanks to all of my students' families for the thoughtful, kind, and generous Christmas gifts that were given to me.  I thanked each of my children directly, but I wanted to say thank you again to families.  I am grateful!  Also, many thanks to all who donated and/or participated in our class Christmas Party.  Your support is appreciated and the children loved it!

Welcome back from Christmas vacation!   We all have been working hard and we all needed a break.  Now that we are refreshed and recharged, we will continue to learn new things!

  • Beginning this week, we are going to expand the use of our Take Home Binders. First of all, I am going to include a Home Reading Log, so that students can write down books that they read at home and then take the AR tests at school. The Home Reading Log will help students to remember book titles and authors for the books that they read at home.
  • I am also going to include a Homework Log, so that students can keep track of their homework assignments. These would include any assignments that are not completed during the school day, as well as daily homework assignments.(I will still post homework assignments in our closed facebook.)
  • Also, I have both purchased and created some 3rd Grade Interactive Math Materials to support our curriculum. As we use them, we will be including them into the take home binders so that the children will have access to them both at home and in school.
  • I am going to have the students take their binders home EVERY day and ask that they bring them back the NEXT school day. This was the original intention for the binders, but when I worked in my room over the break, I noticed that several binders were left behind. Please look through your child's binder daily, so that you can see the logs and what we are working on in school.

Mark your calendars!

January 16, 2019 (Wednesday)-The STEAM Museum will be coming to Erving!  All students in Grades 1-5 will participate in a variety of STEAM activities.  It should be both educational and fun!

January 21, 2019 (Monday)-Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day-There will be no school for students.

February 2, 2019 (Saturday)-Kids Against Hunger  More details will be sent home soon!

ELA Announcement: (As posted on Face Book)- When my students take the Weekly Standards ELA test, in general, the area that is most challenging is writing a response to reading. Therefore, during the month of January, we are going to focus on this skill in greater depth. Instead of doing the Weekly Standards based tests this month, we will be doing quizzes each Friday on these specific writing skills.  I will announce when we will resume the Standards Based Weekly Tests. It will be sometime in February.

My best,
