Welcome to Mrs. Butler's

3rd Grade Realm

Dear Families,

Many thanks to all who donated treats and/or participated in our class Valentine's Party.  The children had a wonderful time!  I posted pictures from the party in our class facebook page.

February is Math Month at Erving! We had our first Math challenge last week.  In my class, 91% of my students attempted the challenge.  A new challenge for this week is attached to this page.  I'm hoping for 100% participation this week!

Super Fun Math Day is coming on Friday, February 22nd to Erving!  Students will be playing games to help students think about and make sense of numbers.  Parent volunteers are needed.  Please fill out and return the form that was sent home last week or send me a note, if you are able to help.  (Third grade will be participating from 10:00-10:50 AM.)  Thank you for your support!

Education Galaxy-As announced on my classroom facebook page, we are using an online program that helps students practice Reading, Math, and Language Arts skills.  It is aligned to the CCSS that my students will be tested on when they take the 3rd Grade M-Step Test given by the State of Michigan Department of Education in May.  There is a free version and a paid version. I am thankful to say that I was able to obtain funding for my entire class. As a result, all my students have FREE access and do not have to pay any additional fees.  We have already started using this program in school, but students can also use it at home. The URL to access this program is:

www.educationgalaxy.com

All of my students already know their log-in names and their passwords.

Students can work self-paced and monitor their own progress. (Parents can also see exactly where their child is performing well and where their children may need extra help.)  The program is designed so that the children are asked questions and if they answer these questions correctly, they can play a 20 second game. Then, they will move forward to the next question. If they answer a question incorrectly, a video will automatically pop up and give the child a brief mini-lesson to help them understand the problem.  I encourage all of my students to utilize this program at home, if possible. This is a great way to practice!

My best,
