Hello My Name Is...

I have been a Title I teacher for the Woodhaven-Brownstown School District since 2004. In that time, I have taught at all five elementary schools! My job, as a Title I teacher, is to address the needs of struggling students in all four core academic areas: Language Arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Currently, my big focus at Erving is to help the Title I students succeed in reading, writing, and math.
My education includes a B.A. In elementary education, with a major in Language Arts and minor in mathematics, from the University of Michigan. I also received my Masters degree there as a Reading Specialist.
In addition to "my kids" at school, I have two young children at home. As a working parent, I understand the struggle of time management that all parents go through. I try to make use of the teachable moments I have with my children. The "how was your day" conversations we have at the dinner table are the highlight of my day! I understand that we are all pulled in a million different directions every day...that's why you won't see any traditional homework coming from me. My assignment to the students is to go home and tell someone what you did at school today....read a book ( with someone, on your own, to your dog, any way you choose)...be responsible and kind...remember to have fun and enjoy being a kid!
We will work hard all year and I'm sure the students will make great gains in their academics, as well as gain a sense of accomplishment and pride in their successes.
